Smoothies are a healthy way to jump start your day, but there’s no reason they can’t taste like dessert, even without the added sugar and calories. Try these to get your imagination going and see what you can come up with!

Blueberry Muffin Smoothie

from Whole Foods Market

1 1/2 cups orange juice

2/3 cup fresh blueberries

1/2 cup rolled oats

2 tablespoons flax oil

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1 cup ice cubes

Black Forest Smoothie

1 1/2 cups milk or almond milk

2/3 cup frozen dark sweet cherries (no sugar added)

banana, in chunks

2 teaspoons cocoa powder

Luscious Lassi

from Green Smoothies for Every Season by Kristine Miles

2 mangos, peeled and cubed

1 ½ cups almond milk

¼ teaspoon ground cardamom

squeeze of lemon juice

handful of spinach

Southern “Salad” Smoothie

If you grew up in the South, it’s likely you’ve got a soft spot for congealed salad.  You know the one – sour cream and banana in between layers of strawberry Jello, dusted with pecan halves.  This salad-inspired smoothie is every bit as tasty, and you can skip the iceberg-lettuce garnish.

1 ½ cups almond milk

banana, in chunks

big handful of fresh strawberries

2 tablespoons plain yogurt

4 pecan halves
