A Taste of the Nation Preview

Now in its 24th year, Taste of the Nation returns Saturday, August 10 to gather more than 30 local chefs in support of Share Our Strengths’ efforts to eradicate childhood hunger in Central Florida.

Chefs will whip up a seemingly endless array of appetizers, entrees, and desserts inside the Orlando World Center Marriott where attendees dressed in their finest will munch and sip the night away.

The list of participating restaurants includes The Ravenous Pig, Cask and LarderChristners Prime Steak & Lobster, Cress Restaurant, and K Restaurant and Wine Bar. Beverages will be provided by a long list of local and national contributors, including Orlando Brewing Company, Cigar City Brewing, Vibrant Rioja Wines, and Tito’s Handmade Vodka.

Tickets to the event are $150 per person with all proceeds supporting two local charities: Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida and Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida. Last year, Taste of the Nation drew more than 2,200 attendees and raised $249,000 for these organizations. To put that into perspective, just $50 provides a week of nutritious meals to 32 homeless children.

“We always like to support charities that give back to our community.  Taste of the Nation supports two local charities that help the people in our community who need it the most, especially children.” says James Petrakis, who will have Cask & Larder beer on hand as well as a “Tongue & Cheek” dish featuring pastrami pickled beef tongue salad from The Ravenous Pig and smoked creekstone beef cheek, popcorn grits, sorghum roasted carrots, pickled blackberries from Cask & Larder.

Besides the epicurean offerings, the event will also feature a silent auction packed with getaways at upscale hotels, luxury apparel, and rounds of golf.
