Freddy Figuera is the Executive Chef at American Social. This high-energy sports bar is a popular new spot on Restaurant Row for lunch, dinner and boozy brunch faves with international flair.

What’s your favorite local restaurant other than your own? The Ravenous Pig, because they created an amazing and unique food style. The service is five stars, definitely it’s on my top three!

What’s your go-to meal at home? Arepas (a thick, corn meal tortilla) stuffed with whatever I have in my fridge–ham, cheese, ropa vieja beef, avocado and more. Avo toast with a poached egg and arugula or spinach salad.

Where do you shop locally for interesting ingredients? Latin supermarkets, fresh markets.

Which kitchen gadget could you not live without? Pastry cutter to make any kind of croquettes. Pasta boil basket strainer to fry small items.

What was your favorite lunch as a kid?  Caesar salad from Belle Vue Restaurant in Venezuela– they prepared the dressing in front of the table.

What’s your most guilty junk-food pleasure? Pizza.

What 3 things are in your fridge at all times? Beer, P.A.N. Harina and eggs.

Is there anything else about yourself you’d like to share? I’m a Venezuelan chef ready to cook for everybody!
