Who cares what the calendar says? Summer, at least in our part of the country, is well under way. What better way to celebrate the lazy days to come than with a visit to one of our fine local resorts for a long Memorial Day weekend staycation? Here are a few packages with foodie fêtes to consider:
The Ritz-Carlton Orlando, Grande Lakes
This sprawling resort featuring a family and adults-only pool has a special Memorial Day weekend offer of 30 percent off when visitors book three consecutive nights. Arrive Friday 5/22 and depart on Monday 5/25 and the rate is $251/night plus taxes and fees.
Also that weekend, Highball & Harvest will host a Southern BBQ Festival and private fireworks show. From Beer Can Chicken and Cedar Plank Salmon to an entire buffet dedicated to bacon, guests can enjoy a festive feast while listening to live music and participating in a watermelon eating contest and games. This event is open to non-hotel guests as well.
The festival, which runs from 6 to 9pm, will culminate in a spectacular fireworks display over the lake (shown above). Hyatt Regency Orlando
Hyatt Regency Orlando recently announced Summer Sensation, a live outdoor concert featuring country star Josh Thompson with special guests JT Hodges and Nikki Lane on Sunday, May 24. The hotel’s Garden Terrace will act as the backdrop for the event with cocktails and bites available for purchase during the performance.
Summer Sensation ticket packages are currently on sale for $199 and include an overnight stay at Hyatt Regency Orlando, two general admission tickets to the concert and complimentary parking. Individual concert tickets are also on sale for $45 including General Admission tickets, complimentary self-parking and 20% off food at the hotel’s signature restaurants all weekend long. VIP tickets, which are $75 each, include access to reserved VIP seats, exclusive access to the Summer Sensation Lounge with light hors d’oeuvre served complimentary, premium cash bar, and the chance to meet one or more of the artists. Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek
SummerBlast returns to this Disney-area hotel for its fifth year and brings with it 108 days of celebrations from May 22 through September 6, 2015. Kicking off Memorial Day weekend with a private fireworks display on Saturday, May 23 at 9:30pm, SummerBlast features special programming and activities including SummerBlast! Dive-In Movie Nights (Fridays and Saturdays, weather permitting.), SummerBlast! Pool Parties (Saturdays, weather permitting) and Mermaid Academy (Saturdays, weather permitting).

Waldorf Astoria Orlando
Next door to the Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek, The Waldorf Astoria Orlando has several activities and special dining experiences starting the weekend of Memorial Day and continuing through Labor Day weekend. The Enchanted Evenings summer program features rates from $199 per night plus a slew of fun activities including weird science ice cream socials, scavenger hunts, poolside yoga and cocktails classes plus the return of the famous Bar du Chocolat.

With rates starting at $250 per night, Reunion Resort’s Memorial Weekend package includes accommodations, daily breakfast for two adults at the Clubhouse Grille and a $50 resort credit per night. American Q at B Resort
This casual eatery will host a Sunday BBQ on Sunday, May 24 from noon to 4pm. Held in the courtyard at B Resort, this family-friendly event is free and open to the public, and features a live Rockabilly performance by the Oak Hill Drifters. There will also be food and drink concessions featuring some of the restaurant’s best bites.
