Orlando’s Mixologists Shake up the Best Labor Day Cocktails

Planning a Labor Day shindig this weekend? Wow your guests with some creative cocktail recipes courtesy of some of Orlando’s favorite mixologists.

SONY DSCUnbridled Bleu
Where: The Lobby Lounge at The Ritz-Carlton Orlando, Grande Lakes
Mixologist: Brian Mchugh
“I like this cocktail because it uses our house made blueberry jam. This drink quenches your thirst, refreshes your palette and the bitterness allows the drink to evolve as you are enjoying it.”

Preparation
1 oz Death’s Door Gin
1/2 oz Luxardo Maraschino
1/2 oz ginger syrup
1/2 of fresh lemon juice
1 tbsp blueberry preserves
1 1/2 oz of Pellegrino

In a Boston shaker, combine all ingredients except for the Pellegrino. Fill with ice and give it a hard long shake. Crack the shaker and double strain into a Collins glass filled with fresh large cube ice. Top with Pellegrino. Garnish with a long peel of lemon zest and mint. Rub the edge of the glass with the outside of the peel. Nest a few blueberries at the top of the ice as well.

Cucumber Gimlet (small)Cucumber Gimlet
Where: Ocean Prime
Mixologist: Rick Giannasi
“It’s a cool, refreshing cocktail. People come in and I can see it in their eyes before they even sit down at the table that they need one.”

Preparation
4-5 ¼ inch slices of a peeled English cucumber
1.5 oz Bombay Sapphire Gin
1 oz fresh squeezed lime juice
1 oz of simple syrup

Muddle the cucumber in a glass then add the Bombay Sapphire Gin. Mix and add ice to a shaker. Shake for ten seconds then pour in a highball glass over ice. Garnish with the peel from the cucumber, wrapped around a stick.

 

mojito (small)Classic Mojito
Where: Eleven at Reunion Resort
Mixologist: Alicia Spidel
“The Mojito is perfect for summer. It’s light, simple and refreshing. You can order one at Eleven then relax, enjoy breathtaking views and beat the summer heat.”

Preparation
1.5oz white rum
1.5oz club soda
5 mint leaves
2 lime wedges
.75oz simple syrup
A splash of fresh lime juice

Muddle mint, simple syrup, lime wedges, and lime juice. Add ice and rum, and then shake. Finish with club soda and decorate rim of glass with lime wedge.

Pleasure and Pagne (small)Roasted Strawberries & Cream
Where: Ember
Mixologist: Adam Sewell
“This cocktail provides the sweetness of celebration with the added wow factor of the torch, which goes well with Ember’s ambiance.”

Preparation
3 strawberries
1.5oz Pinnacle Whipped Vodka
1/2 oz simple syrup
Splash of Sprite

Roll three strawberries in sugar and place them on a skewer stick. Blow torch the strawberries until thoroughly caramelized. Add the Pinnacle Whipped Vodka and simple syrup. Top with ice and shake vigorously for 10 seconds. Pour into a 16oz glass and top with ice then add a splash of Sprite.

Papa Doble (small)Papa Doble
Where: Hurricanes Lounge at Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress
Mixologist: Fred Rhode
“Rumored to be the favorite drink of Ernest Hemingway, the Papa Doble is one of my favorites and very popular with resort guests. Using only the freshest ingredients, this signature cocktail blends refreshing citrus with smooth rums for a taste of the tropics, Grand Cypress-style.”

Preparation
1 and ¼oz each of Barcardi Light Rum and Captain Morgan’s Spiced Rum
3 oz each of the following juices: pineapple, orange, and grapefruit
Splash of grenadine

Shake all ingredients in cocktail shaker, garnish with pineapple and orange slices.
