Women Chefs Shine at Scott Joseph’s East End Market Pop-Up

From lighting to linens, every dinner party is chock full of tasks to complete before the first guest arrives.  When that to-do list includes turning a newly-opened food market into a venue for dozens of guests hungry for a multi-course sit-down meal, it could just be a recipe for disaster.  Fortunately, Scott Joseph is a pop-up pro, and he and his team used the East End Market’s welcoming indoor and outdoor spaces to provide a most fitting backdrop for the outstanding menu his all-women team of chefs prepared.

As Joseph rightly noted during his introduction of chefs Kathleen Blake (The Rusty Spoon), Annette Grecchi Gray (Darden Restaurants), Jephanie Foster (Blue Bistro), Julie Petrakis (The Ravenous Pig) and baker Janice Talty (Olde Hearth Bread Company), “These are not just great women chefs — these are great chefs.” Proceeds from the evening went towards the scholarship fund of Women Chefs & Restaurateurs, a national organization which Blake has supported for over 20 years.  While no women winemakers were present at the event, the fruits of their labor were in abundance courtesy of Dhane Chesson of Rioja Wines and Gigi Chilvers of Wine on the Way. Each dish was paired with a different Rioja wine and artisan bread from Olde Hearth Bread Company.

After this evening, I can’t wait to see where Scott pops up next.
