Fun Food Events for Feb 11-17

Here are some quick tips for fun food events around Orlando this week, including Valentine’s Day, Super Bowl Sunday and more.

We’ve got both Valentine’s Day and Super Bowl LVII coming up, so a big week in the world of eating and drinking. If you’re pre-gaming for either event, we’ve got a couple cocktails to try in the current print edition of Edible Orlando. The Chocolate-Covered Strawberry Martini is more romantic. The Bella Donna takes a little more prep, but packs a punch by combining tequila, pineapple juice, chile liqueur and bell pepper.

Even without Super Bowl Sunday and Valentine Tuesday, this is still a busy week of fun food events. Edible Orlando writer John Graham has your five best bests for the week ahead, Saturday to Friday.

The Audubon Park Garden District kicks off its first Local Love Wine Walk on Saturday, 2-5 p.m., in front of East End Market. For $15, you get your wine glass and stop at various spots around the district to try different vino. No food is officially served during the walk, but there are plenty of local restaurants around the district for a quick bite. The best place to park is Audubon Park K-8 School on Falcon Drive. You’ll also get a packet of Florida-friendly wildflower seeds to plant at home. Money raised helps the APGD Green Up Fund.

Also on Saturday, Springfest in Avalon Park celebrates the Lunar New Year, the Year of the Rabbit in the Chinese zodiac. From noon – 6 p.m. in the Avalon Park downtown area, the free event includes traditional dragon and lion dance, live cultural dance and music, an arts and crafts market and more. You can also buy food and drink from cuisines including Chinese, Japanese, Indonesian and Korean.

Every sports bar, pizzeria and chicken wing slinger will be busy for Super Bowl Sunday, but here’s a few tips to get you started. Jeff’s Bagel Run in both Ocoee and College Park will open Sunday morning with red/yellow and green/black bagels in tribute to the Chiefs and Eagles. The three Duffy’s Sports Grill locations around Orlando are doing both tailgate takeout packs and $25 in-bar admission with one drink, snack, and $10 off next visit. Bloodhound Brew is charging a $35 admission for drink specials and an all-you-can-eat buffet including wings, pulled pork, chili, tandoori chicken, and shrimp. Black Rooster Taqueria is offering $125 take-out game day meals at the Curry Ford location that feed 10-15 people with carne asada and chicken tinga tacos, queso, salsa, guacamole and chips.

We didn’t forget Valentine’s Day! In fact, we found so many specials and prix fixe dinners on Tuesday that we put them all together in a special Valentine’s Day dining guide. One extra event for you is the “Love Hurts” edition of Milk District’s Tasty Takeover street party. It’s too late to sign up for the Spicy Eating Competition, but you’re still welcome to point and laugh. Vendors serving up dinner and dessert include Dio Santo Street Pizzeria, The Brujas Table, The Hook Orlando, Cholo Dogs, Cloud 9 Berries, Pudding Queen and more. The event is from 6:30 – 10 p.m., but you can watch the Red Panda Noodle spicy food competition at 7:30 p.m.

If you just want to keep the Valentine’s Day spirit going, Bites & Bubbles is hosting its monthly wine dinner on Wednesday and calling it “For the Love of Food.” The $125 per person evening starts at 6:30 p.m. and includes a white cranberry cosmo, lobster bisque, pork belly in orange sauce, NY strip steak, chocolate lava cake and, of course, wine pairings.
