Here are some quick tips for fun food events this week, including Father’s Day deals, Juneteenth, and more.
Lake Meadow Naturals in Ocoee is popular with both local restaurants and home cooks for its fresh eggs and farm market. A couple weeks back, the egg processing room caught fire and while all the staff (and hens) are okay, Lake Meadow Naturals has some construction costs ahead. If you like fresh eggs or grass-fed beef or heritage pork bacon, check out their online shop. If you’re looking for a recipe, Lake Meadow Naturals shared one for lemon curd in the most recent issue of Edible Orlando magazine.

Grande Lakes Orlando is celebrating the resort’s 20th anniversary with GLO Summer Nights, including weekly Saturday fireworks and “glow-charged” nights at the new Grande Lakes Waterpark. Some events are for overnight resort guests only, but for example, if you had dinner at Knife & Spoon or Primo, you could then view the Saturday night fireworks from the resort grounds or purchase a picnic basket for a gazebo/lakeside viewing spot. Grande Lakes Orlando is anchored by The Ritz-Carlton Orlando and JW Marriott Orlando.
Bite30 is back on through July 9 with three dozen local restaurants offering special prix fixe menus at a set price of (now) $35. It’s a great chance to take a chance and check out a new place or new cuisine. Tax and gratuity are not included.

FusionFest kicks off three nights of Diversitastic! Dining Experiences in June with the first round of its Culinary Arts Contest. Seven local chefs will be remixing ingredients and methods from different countries and cultures for some unique fusion dishes. Guests also get a sommelier-led wine tasting and a live cultural performance. Tickets are $59. More chefs will be cooking on June 20 and home chefs will compete on June 28.

Monday, June 19
Juneteenth celebrates and commemorates the end of slavery in the United States, a great reason to check out one of the many Black-owned restaurants and artisan businesses around Central Florida. That’s everything from the hot chicken at Chicken Fire (sandwich up top) to the barbecue at St. Vic’s Smoke Shack and from the burgers and brunch at Brick & Spoon to the strawberry rhubarb pie at Sister Honey’s.

Canvas in Lake Nona is exploring wine from less-traveled regions of France this summer with fixe prix meals and wine pairings. For this night in June, 6:30 – 9:30 p.m., it’s Côte d’Azur, the French Riviera. Originally priced at $160 per person, now for $125 you get passed hors d’oeuvres with rosé champagne, grilled asparagus salade Lyonnaise with Chablis, poulet rôti (roast chicken) with both Beaujolais and Chinon, and Basque cheesecake with Bugey-Cerdon.

Chef Wendy Lopez at Reyes Mezcaleria is inviting in Chef Huy Tin of Seito Sushi at Baldwin Park for the next En la Mesa dinner, starting at 6: 30 p.m. The chefs’ dinner collab promises a mix of Mexican and Japanese flavors along with beverage pairings by Lorena Castro. Tickets are $185 per person with tax and tip included.
Friday, June 23
The Oceanaire Seafood Room inside Pointe Orlando is staging a four-course prix fixe menu and wine pairing with The Duckhorn Portfolio, starting at 7 p.m. For $175 per person, tax and gratuity included, you get reception hors d’oeuvres with sparkling brut cuvée, chilled lobster salad with sauvignon blanc, wild Alaska halibut with chardonnay, duck leg confit and sea scallop with pinot noir, and flourless chocolate torte with cabernet sauvignon. You must, of course, be 21+.
