If given the challenge, most people can identify the food on their plate within seconds but could they do it blindfolded? In this unique culinary competition, 16 local chefs from Orlando put their senses to the test in Very Local’s original series Blind Kitchen.
The Emmy Award-winning original series Blind Kitchen has made its way to Orlando where chefs from The Milk District, Winter Park, Audubon Park, and more will compete in a down-and-dirty guessing game.
The chefs competing feed Orlando, and their specialties range from sandwiches, Italian, and Southern comfort to seafood and beyond. No matter their cuisine of focus, this competition will require them to flex their senses and skills.
The competition, hosted by Emily Ellyn, kicks off with each chef creating their signature dish in just thirty minutes. Their opponent will then have to taste their dish…blindfolded! They have to figure out how the dish is plated, what the ingredients are, and how it is cooked only using their sense of taste, touch, and smell in a matter of minutes.
Chefs then head back into the kitchen to recreate their opponent’s dish in just 35 minutes. After being blindfolded, nothing is quite as it seems–one chef may mistake quail for chicken, and another might just have to start from scratch after second-guessing their senses.
Notable guest judges, alongside Emily Ellyn, have to decide which chef has recreated their opponent’s signature dish best. All factors are taken into consideration: how it was plated, what amount of correct ingredients were used, and the overall taste of the dish.
The winning chef will walk away with bragging rights and a donation made to the non-profit organization of their choice! Blind Kitchen Orlando is the first-ever Orlando-centric cooking competition highlighting some of the local chefs who contribute to the on-the-rise foodie scene in Orlando.
You can stream new episodes of Blind Kitchen Orlando weekly on Wednesdays on the Very Local streaming app available on mobile, tablet, and connected TV devices including Roku and Amazon Fire TV.
