Here are some quick tips for food and fun in Orlando, including Father’s Day dining and more.

Fresh Florida watermelon is a sweet way to cool off right now. The price is right, and a cup is only 45 calories! Of course, you can do more with watermelon than cut it into chunks. Flipping through the Edible Orlando recipe files, we’ve got a caprese salad with watermelon vinaigrette, a chilled watermelon-dill soup, and even a mezcal and watermelon cocktail.

Saturday, June 8

Would you belly flop for a couple hots dogs and a beer? What about a trophy too? Cholo Dogs is back with Franco’s Flop Fest at Baldwin Park’s Tactical Brewing. Floppers must check in by 2 p.m., pay $35, and may dive in costume or bare belly. Belly flops are judged on creativity, sound, splash, impact, and showmanship. All floppers get the two franks and a beer, but the winner also gets a trophy and a t-shirt.

Monday, June 10

When we were all stuck at home, making sourdough bread was quite the thing. Now, Traditional Lifestyle Creations in St. Cloud has a sourdough class, 9:30 – 11:30 a.m., to gets kids, ages 10-18, out of the house. Designed for home schoolers, they’ll learn the baking basics, sourdough history, and the health benefits of fermenting. Students bring a loaf pan and take it home filled to rise at home. Parents can walk the gardens during the class. Tickets are $12, or $17 if you want two loaves. Call 407-282-8635 to hold a spot.

Wednesday, June 12

The Mirabeau winery makes both rosé and a pale pink gin that uses wine grapes as the base for its neutral spirit. Vines Grille on Sand Lake Rd. is hosting a three-course dinner built around the rosé gin with watermelon feta salad, surf and turf (pistachio scallops and filet mignon with blueberry beurre blanc, and a “surprise dessert pairing.”  Dinner starts at 6 p.m. and tickets are $92.55 with taxes and fees.

Thursday, June 13

Kelly’s and Swine & Sons are teaming up for a night of smashburgers and ice cream sandwiches at the Edible Education Experience, 6 – 8 p.m. Billed as “Culinary Curiosities – Sweet & Salty Creations,” Kelly Seidl and Chef Alexia Gawlak will talk, demonstrate, and teach as well as feed the class. The burger condiment bar will also feature fresh produce from the Experience’s on-site garden. Tickets are $75.

Friday, June 14

If Dad likes bourbon, here’s one to get a jump on Father’s Day. A Grand Bohemian Orlando master bartender will be teaching a couple cocktails made with Angel’s Envy bourbons, 6:30 – 9:30 p.m. Then, after learning your mixology, you can create your own concoction and maybe win merch, booze, or brunch for two. A $129.40 ticket (after taxes and fees) also includes light bites, bourbon tasting, a personalized engraved bottle of Angel’s Envy, and a set of coupe glasses.

Sunday, June 16

Dad doesn’t get as many brunch and dining-out options on his day as Mom does, but here’s a few.
Lake Nona’s Park Pizza & Brewing Company has a “hoppy” Father’s Day special with a $25 gift package that includes a tote, a koozie, a bottle opener, and a beer.
Rosen Center Orlando will have a Dad’s Day buffet at Harry’s Poolside Bar & Grill, noon – 6 p.m., including 12-hour smoked brisket, barbecue pork ribs, grilled Mexican street corn, honey-chipotle roast salmon, and a free draft beer (for dads only). The meal is $49.95 for adults before taxes and fees and $24.95 for children 4-12. Reservations are a good idea.
Rosen Shingle Creek is feeding Dad for free with the purchase of an entrée at either the Italian bistro Cala Bella or the steakhouse A Land Remembered.
Summer House on the Lake at Disney Springs is adding a few Father’s Day items to the usual California-cuisine menu. Brunch specials include cinnamon roll pancakes, Wagyu steak and eggs, and Dungeness crab hash. For dinner, specials are wild snapper crudo, Maine lobster risotto, and an avocado and ricotta pizza.
The newly opened Pinstripes Orlando in O-Town West is throwing a grill-themed brunch for Father’s Day with burgers, brats, cold watermelon and a live band.
Four Flamingos at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress is adding a Father’s Day dinner special for two: cashew Caesar salad with bread and butter, a grilled 18-ounce ribeye Oscar for two with king crab and mango bearnaise, whiskey- and foie-braised mushrooms, batatas bravas with chorizo crisps, and for dessert, key lime pie with raspberry gelée and flambéed meringue. That’s $116 for Dad and you before tax and tip.

Tuesday, June 18

Chow on Church is a party for foodies and Orlando Pride fans, 3:30 – 6 p.m., at INTER&Co Stadium on W. Church St. Organized by the Downtown Orlando Partnership, admission is $35, or $25 if you’re a DOP member. You get food tastings, networking, the chance to meet Orlando Pride players, and two tickets for an upcoming Pride match.

Friday, June 21

Duckhorn Vineyards and The Oceanaire Seafood Room have put together a reception and four-course dinner celebrating wine pairings, starting at 6:30 p.m. Kicking off with Oceanaire Pearl oysters with watermelon chili mignonette and tempura lobster tail, the dinner courses include lobster and sweet corn bisque with Chardonnay, house-smoked salmon with pinot noir, pistachio-crusted lamb chops with merlot, and Wagyu short rib “au poivre” and duck fat potatoes with cabernet sauvignon. Tickets are $169.34 with taxes and fees.
